Wingham Beef Triumph’s in World Barbecue Championship

Wingham Beef has stunned hundreds of US-based competitors in the World Championship Barbecue Competition held in Houston, Texas.

Owner Grant Coleman lead a team of six Aussie’s, taking on seasoned veterans from the US competitive BBQ circuit, to finish with the runner-up trophy in the coveted brisket division.

Making this even more impressive is that this is the first time a non-US resident has finished within the top ten in a major US barbecue competition. To rub salt in to the Texans wounds, the beef used was completely sourced from Australia – the only competitor who did not use beef sourced from the United States.

“Some of the other competitors we spoke to could not believe that an upstart from Australia could walk in and deliver results like this – within half a point of overall crown, and using the only piece of imported meat in the entire competition” Mr Coleman said.

“It’s a great endorsement for Australian beef.”

Wingham Beef, competing as Manning Valley Natural Smokers finished within half a point of eventual winners Buns-N-Roses.
