Free Spirit Cruises offer volunteers a day out

Volunteers are the lifeblood of many communities and can come from all walks of life. They can be retirees, students, young people or working professionals, with a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds, making for an interesting and knowledgeable mix!

The annual celebration of National Volunteer Week acknowledges the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers and with more than 6 million Australians volunteering, there are a lot of people to thank.

During this year’s National Volunteer Week over 50 MidCoast Tourism volunteers came together and shared stories and their experiences from volunteering in the 6 Visitor Information Centres in our region. To thank them for the contribution Peter and the team from Free Spirit Cruises Forster generously offered to take the volunteers on a Wallis Lake Cruise and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Nanette Burnham Team Leader of Visitor Services for MidCoast Council said, “Without our large team of tourism volunteers, it would be impossible to run our 6 visitor centres throughout the region.  Their help, support and dedication is absolutely priceless!”

Established in 1989, National Volunteer Week is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia providing an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our community and to say a big thank you.
